It may be that regulatory changes gave SVB “much greater freedom to make high-risk investments” but that does not mean SVB was forced to make foolish decisions. The assertion that Republican politicians can “better identify in a mirror” the bank’s failings than by asking questions about the quality of the bank’s own management is absurd.
